Temp & Perm Office Recruitment – Market Commentary July 2016


The overall market trend within office support is predominantly short term ‘urgency’ with relief reception, customer service, help desk and bookkeeping requirements. These short term assignments often stretch to longer term and sometimes even convert to permanency. The ‘try before you buy’ approach regularly works well for both the employer and the employee. By providing a high quality temporary staff member a commitment to a permanent role is often forthcoming.

Hence, the requirements for permanent staff members appear to have been replaced with the tentativeness of seeking a temporary requirement with a view to converting to permanency.


We are currently experiencing high demand for short term temporary relief, predominantly reception/office administration. Permanent requests, as with Melbourne, are ‘try before you buy’, requesting temporary staff with the possible conversion to permanency. Candidates in Sydney appear to want easy access to public transport as they are not enthusiastic about having to drive to any location.

Both Melbourne and Sydney appear to be retaining similar salaries/hourly rates – anywhere between $27 and $32 per hour.
